Research Paper: Towards a greater understanding of the causes of African poverty

It was a real honour to present my first ever research paper at the 2013 Geographical Association conference in Derby.  I was expecting the usual 15 to 20 people for a research presentation and was staggered to see the room getting progressively more crowded until people were bringing in chairs from the room next door!  I think the impressive delegate attendance reflects an interest in the continent of Africa and a keenness to see progression in geographical understanding.

Please click on the links to download a copy of the presentation  PDF or PowerPoint.  Alternatively you can view in on the embedded slideshare presentation below.  You are also welcome to download a copy of the lesson resources I used to help students develop their geographical understanding. Lesson 1; Lesson 2; Lesson 3.

I really do welcome your comments and suggestions on how to move this research forward.  I would be interested in developing some curriculum resources to help challenge the misconceptions I discovered.
